I’m a college grad!

Filed under: knitting — by Amy @ 8:05 pm

Guess what! I have graduated! I’ll get you some more pictures when I can get them. I know that my mom and best friend both have some pictures for me.

0510081449-00

This is another shot of how many graduated. Clicking will send you to my flickr page.

After graduation, we went to Ruby Tuesdays and it was very good. Then we went to see What Happens in Vegas with my cousins. It was a very good movie and a lot better than I thought. I really wanted to see Made of Honor, but we were a few minutes late for that one.

Today I’ve done nothing but watch some Indiana Jones movies and tv and some crocheting (some stuff on that later). I’ve also decided to go to Kings Island with my bff in June. Her sister can get 2 free tickets from her job and a parking pass and a picnic lunch. Can’t do better than that, what with the price of gas. I also decided to go because I decided to not go to Cedar Point and she hasn’t been to Kings Island since I went with her. The only thing is that it’s a company day at the park, so very busy (just as long as Whirlpool isn’t there, but I bet they are there). Oh well, I get free food, admission, and parking.

Now some pictures of some of my projects.

Here is my Baby Surprise Jacket:0511081958-00

This is what was done last Friday. I’m slowly getting halfway done and on the verge of going through my first ball of yarn. There’s nothing else to say about that one.

Here are my socks:0511081959-00

I’m on the verge of getting through the ribbing. I really like how this is coming along. I also have more shots, but not many.

New ducky0511082001-00

So, this doesn’t look like much, but this is the start of a ducky. It’s on hold right now because I don’t have any stuffing (well my mom does, but I don’t know where it is). This is the first time I used some safety eyes and can’t believe I haven’t used them before. This is simply soft brites in the yellow color (I had gotten some simply soft brites yarn from my sister for a graduation present, along with a cute lil tote to hold some projects and a gift card to Books-A-Million.

That’s it! Happy Mother’s Day to you moms and ciao!

(Not So) Quickie

Filed under: knitting — by Amy @ 11:03 am

Just a quick update with no pictures - I should take a photography class - maybe when (if) I get into Ball State.

Knitting:
I have started the BSJ (ravelry) last Friday! I got to the point of the increases for the cuff and I think I had place the stitchmarkers wrong or something. So Saturday, I ripped it out and started again. I’m almost to that point again, and I think I understand it.

I had gotten a wonderful package from Heather that had a row counter bracelet that she made and some Knit Picks Simple Stripes yarn (This a link to Heather’s stash, which is what I got) that is so fun. So I’ve started working socks two-at-a-time and I’m going to learn a short-row heel and toe. It’s also going to be one of those plain vanilla socks.

That’s about it for knitting news.

Life:
This is finals week!!!!! I have to work on some things, but other than that, I’m done at Ivy Tech! I’ll be having commencement on Saturday and walking down in my cap and gown. Now I have to finish my reinstatement form to get back into Ball State. I think I want to do International Business as my major, but I don’t know. I do know I want to travel, so we will see. I still have to take some courses before I could apply for the Miller College of Business.

I did get a trophy at a banquet that I didn’t even attend (and that’s because I was at the knitting class). It was for Outstanding member or something. It’s really, really nice - has brass and a cherry (that’s what my boss said) base. The SIFE team also got an award for service project - Which is very cool because we got our name on a plaque!

Oh, I’m not going to Cedar Point this month because I have no money. I’m truly sad because I so wanted to go. Well priorities come first since I won’t have my work study job after this week. That also means that I might not be able to do a swap later this summer. I hate living paycheck to paycheck, can’t wait for a career to start.

But, It’s not that bad because on June 4 I’m going to the Prelude to the Dream race at Eldora Speedway (yes, the track that Tony Stewart owns and where Kevin Harvick’s going to drive :-) ). The thing is, I’m going with a bunch of the family, but it will still be fun.

That’s it for me. I have to finish some tests and such. Have fun and ciao!

Am I weird?

Filed under: knitting — by Amy @ 3:04 pm

I’ve been in a mood to want to quilt and get back into sewing. I say this to my mom, and she’s all, “You can’t sew!” Background story: I was in 4-H for ten years and for the first five, I was in sewing. Me and mom “clashed” and we didn’t work very well together. I can sew, just not as good as her (I’m seriously thinking being left-handed has a lot to do with it). Well, it doesn’t help that Craftster.org has some lovely quilts on there and wonderful outfits that were sewn. First I have to get some yarn and then save for my trip to Cedar Point on the 20th yay!

I love the color of yarn Robyn shown me in my comments last week for the BSJ. I’m going to look for that color at the yarn store because I have to purchase the materials there (but I get 10% off for those things). I can’t wait to start and meet other knitters of the community. There’s some yummy Louisa Harding Yarns called Jasmine (Rav link) that is soft and sparkly. This yarn would be lovely for some fetchings. But, I have to hold off.

I am going up to Cedar Point and I’m going to get to ride on Maverick! I’m so excited! I’m going to try to get my bff on Top Thrill Dragster; but if I can’t, we’ll still go on Millennium Force and the rest of the coasters and Skyhawk. I’m going to get more pennies pressed (so heads up Heather!) and another hoodie since the one I have got a bit ruined from one of my sweaters sitting on it in the washer and maybe some other things.

That’s it for now. Enjoy and ciao!

P.S. I went to the yarn shop and I got some Queensland Bebe Cotsoy (Rav link) in Steel Blue. I think it’s a safe color and can be both girly and boyish. It’s very soft and feels yummy. I also got that Jasmine yarn in a violet color to make some fingerless mitts for my mom.

Shaky Friday!

Filed under: knitting — by Amy @ 11:19 am

I’ve been in an earthquake! A tiny one, granted, not as big as the ones in California. There is a fault line in the Midwest that can get some significant quakes called the New Madrid Fault. If you’ve been watching the news (and I bet it made international news), there was a 5.2, 5.4 earthquake in Illinois - northwest of Evansville, Indiana, and we felt the shocks. It was at 5:30 a.m. and I vaguely remember that the house did shake, but I was half asleep - it was like 15 mins. before my alarm started going off - and a bit confused and went back to sleep. Just about a 1/2 hour ago (about 11:15 a.m.) there was an aftershock, but I was driving home from work when it happened. My sis said the house shook like it was very windy out - and that was a 4.8 or something like it. The only damage I know of is some bricks and mortar off of a building in Louisville, Kentucky, not that close to the epicenter. This is my first earthquake that I remember (I was like 2

Heather and Jenn! I have everything ready, I’m going to send your prizes out today (since I got to go home early today from work) so keep an eye out for them.

I have been knitting…just, there aren’t any pictures because I’ve been lazy. I’ve started another Endpaper Mitts in Knit Picks Palette in Petal (or blush) and bark. I was working on it yesterday during some presentations, and even I was getting so bored that I didn’t want to keep working on them. I do have the noro scarf done, just have to weave in the ends, and I might not do it until this fall. I think I need to frog my shawl and restart it because I don’t remember where I’m at on it and have made a mistake when I was very tired.

I have signed up for a Baby Surprise Jacket class down at Unwind Yarn Shop! It starts the first Friday in May and I think the whole month. I haven’t gotten any yarn, but I don’t know what color I want to get since I don’t have anyone close having a baby. But I think I want something unconventional and unisex, I think. But I’m going to wait until closer when I have more money.

Yesterday, I got my haircut. It’s so cute and I’ll show you pictures when I get them in the computer.

That is it. Spring definately has sprung and I’m going to try to go out and enjoy it. Ciao everyone!

It’s April the Second!

Filed under: knitting — by Amy @ 5:57 pm

I’ve been slacking. I haven’t been able to get to the chocolate factory at all (and I meant to go 2 weeks ago during my Spring Break). So Jenn and Heather, nothing has been sent out yet (unless you don’t want any chocolates) and I’m sorry about that.

Last week, we had to get ready for SIFE regional at Cincinnati on Friday and that was an interesting experience. It started with our head advisor having a house fire and so he couldn’t come with us. Then when we are ready to do our presentation, the projector that we had decided it wasn’t going to communicate with the laptop (it worked great afterwards, stupid thing). We didn’t place and I didn’t have a good time between the strong wills of 2 women. Only good thing is that I.U. East’s team didn’t place and I got a cute little Waste Management Trashcan keyring.

On Saturday, my church had put on a program and that was interesting too. Won’t go into that, only thing is that we didn’t have much practice.

This whole week, I’ve been having to work at the factory all week because it is the end/first of month. We have one girl out on vacation and it’s been fun, fun, fun.

In knitting news, I’m getting close to finishing my Noro/Cascade 220 scarf. I also started working on a new shawl. It’s the Laminaria shawl from the Spring 2008 issue of Knitty. I’m using the Knit Picks Shadow yarn in Grapevine that I had used for the Secret of the Stole I frogged. I’m in the third repeat of the Star Chart. I love working the star pattern, just need to get some pointier needles.

That’s been it for me. I’m so worn out, but 1 more month (and I’m going to talk someone into coming with me to Cedar Point in May, best time to go)!

My Shrug (or the week of finished projects and avoiding SIFE things)

Filed under: knitting — by Amy @ 8:15 pm

shrug1
Look at my shrug! I had finished it on Wednesday, but wove in the last of the ends today. I truly enjoyed working with this.

specs:

  • The One Skein Wonder by Stephanie Japel
  • Malabrigo yarn that I’ve had for a while
  • Size 8 and 5 needles

I made this because the dress I had bought to wear for Easter and graduation was a sleeveless dress and wanted something to cover my shoulders. I remembered the skein of Malabrigo in my stash and put it against the dress and loved it. I’ve been admiring the OSW and decided to purchase it. I think I started this on Sunday or Monday and worked on it a lot on the last few days. It was quick knit and will make another one. I even have a good bit of yarn left over and might make something else with.

There are more pictures in my flickr account and I will try to get some more pictures of me wearing it (since I have a feeling my uncle will be taking pictures). Oh, I do have to fix a little hole on one underarm join, but that’s all right, I’ll do it.

I also finished my Monkey socks! I’ll have a post on that in a few days, I don’t feel like taking more pictures tonight.

I also got an email today telling what our schedule will look like for Friday for SIFE regional. We are presenting at 9:45 a.m. in a league with the 2-year colleges. This year we have enough to have our own. I’m so nervous! I don’t even have the report done! and we even haven’t practiced once, we are screwed.

To end on a good note, I have had the last two days off; but that means I have a lot to do on Monday. I had done nothing yesterday (when I should have worked on the report) and today went with my mom while she tried on the whole store at Fashion Bug (and she only got 2 shirts :-|).

So, Happy Easter to those who celebrate and enjoy the weekend Ciao!

Reveal Time!

Filed under: knitting — by Amy @ 4:58 pm

The time has come! I will first show you what my corrected announcements look like:

Corrected Graduation announcement

The first announcement said I was graduating from I.U. School of Nursing with a degree in Office Administration. I was hoping that more people noticed that. Yes it had a bunch of grammar errors and I don’t know why. The subtle mistake was the fact I’m graduating from Ivy Tech Community College instead of Indiana University.

Heather and Jenn were the closest ones to the guess, so they both will get yarn and some gourmet chocolates. Yes, I had one person that hit it on the nose, but he got disqualified because he knew a lot of this before from talking with me. I’ll contact you two and I will send the things off by the end of the week.

Congrats to you two, and there will be a knitting post soon.

6 things Meme

Filed under: knitting — by Amy @ 4:40 pm

I feel special! Jenn tagged me to do this meme. So here we go:

1. Link to the person that tagged you.
2. Post the rules on your blog.
3. Share six non-important things/habits/quirks about yourself.
4. Tag six random people at the end of your post by linking to their blogs.
5. Let each random person know they have been tagged by leaving a comment on their website.

  1. I love eating peanut butter and brown sugar sandwiches. It’s very good and the two balance each other out. Try it.
  2. I’m impulsive when it comes to shopping. I usually go in with an idea what I want and then I get something, even if it’s not what I was looking for - clothes, music, books, games, yarn, candy.
  3. I got to stay the Opry Hotel in Nashville during a DECA International thing. During that time, I also got to go to a special showing of the Grand Ole Opry for DECA, the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum, and the Wildhorse Saloon.
  4. I dislike spending time getting ready. I’d rather just blow dry my hair and go.
  5. My room’s a mess. I’d love to clean it up, but I don’t have the motivation to do it. Maybe when I move out, it’ll happen.
  6. Batman’s my favorite Comicbook hero. The fact he has all of these gadgets and keeps a playboy front. I really enjoy watching “The Batman” and I think Christian Bale has done the best Bruce in the movies.

Barb, Heather, Jody, Robyn, and don’t know who else are the ones who are tagged. I tagged them because I enjoy reading their blogs and seeing what they are up to.

That’s it for me - oh, I have done some knitting and will talk of that later. I think I’ll reveal the correct announcement this weekend. So you have until Saturday to guess and reply to that post. Ciao!

“What’s wrong with this announcement?” contest

Filed under: Contest, randomness — by Amy @ 8:55 pm

Graduation Announcement take 1

Note, there’s no grammar/spelling errors. The one’s who have guessed can have a second try.

So, I’ve uploaded a pic of one of my graduation announcements that I got last Friday (or was it the week before?). Can you pick out the obvious mistake? There’s also a subtle mistake (if you’ve read my blog for a while, you might pick this out) on there. Leave a comment with your guess(es) and you will get a prize or two. You’ll get some yarn and some gourmet chocolate from here (a wonderful local chocolatier). I will give you until Easter - March 23, and I will choose the winner (I may have a surprise if the subtle mistake is spot) and show my corrected announcements before I send them out.

Happy guessing!

New Glasses

Filed under: me — by Amy @ 8:32 pm

me w/ a lines

my new glasses

What do you think? I went and picked out some new glasses yesterday at Sears Optical. I couldn’t decide between this and another pair. I really like what I picked out. They are the two-toned type but with clear plastic. I thought I would never get plastic frames and I’m glad they are more stream-lined, not as bulky as before. So I’ll get these in about 10 or 14 days - I’m so excited!

sunglasses

I also got a pair of sunglasses (Ray Bans) since I’ve had my current sunglasses for 5 or so years. These will be polarized and help with the glare. I like them!

Want to see what my poor little car looked like yesterday? We had freezing rain and it coated everything (minus the roads, they weren’t too bad) and caused down power lines and flooded roads. It was so bad that the local schools closed (first time this year!). Without further ado, my car:

antennea iced to roof

Luckily the antennae sprang back to life (I was worried). When I was driving home, I kept hearing a thumping on the roof - like broken bits of trees hitting it. Come to find out it was that. So I had to take a picture of what it looked like. Today it all melted off at work (well most of it) and didn’t have a problem with it.

That’s about it for now. Keep hoping for spring! Ciao
